West Fest 2010

West Fest 2010 was welcomed by beautiful weather and a crowd of about 1,500.  While it was a bit warm, there was a breeze and by 7 pm most of the concert area was shaded.

The event kicked off with Pound 4 Pound, a Salem group that plays rock, funk and R & B, entertaining the crowd for about an hour.   They were followed by former Wings and Moody Blues member, Denny Laine, who shared some stories and played (solo) some British hits.

Concessions for the event were provided by The Wooden Nickel and were enjoyed by everyone, little kids and grandparents alike.  We also collected canned food and cash donations for the Marion-Polk Food Share.

Terry Sylvester, former Hollies member, was joined by Pound 4 Pound to finish off the evening with some classics, including “Long, Cool Woman” and “Carrie Ann.”

These community events just aren’t possible without the support of the community.  The West Salem Business Association coordinated the event, but these sponsors stepped up and contributed to make it happen:

Salem Electric
OSU Federal Credit Union
106.3 KLOO
West Salem Rotary
Redhawk Winery
Grand Hotel in Salem
The Ink Spot

Valley Recycling & Disposal
Polk County Itemizer-Observer
Capital Manor
Les Schwab
Roth's
Today's Hair Salon & Day Spa
City of Salem

We also had a huge group of volunteers, too many to list, who were so valuable leading up to the event, the day of the event and, of course, during and after.

Any profits will be used to upgrade Christmas decorations and banners to decorate Wallace Road and Edgewater Street.

Thanks to everyone who attended and we hope to see you at the event next year, mark your calendars for August 5, 2011.
