The fourth annual West Fest is being held August 15, 2008 at the soccer fields in Wallace Marine Park in West Salem . This free concert will bring back some memories of the 1970s and the "Summer of Love" with "Quicksilver Messenger Service." One of the key bands from San Francisco, Quicksilver was an integral part of the "Summer of Love." Led by original guitarists Gary Duncan and David Freiberg, their list of hit songs includes "Fresh Air," "What About Me?," "Mona," "Who Do You Love," "Pride of Man," and many more.
David Laflamme's slow-burning violin along with his wife Linda and her wonderful vocals will perform the music of "It's a Beautiful Day," famous for their songs "White Bird," "Hot Summer Day," and "Girl With No Eyes."
The venue will open at 5:00 p.m. with several concession trailers, BBQ salmon sandwiches and beverages for adults and children. Music starts at 6:30 p.m. and concludes at 10:00 p.m.
Due to limited parking on-site, attendees are asked to park off-site and walk or use the Cherriot shuttles from West Salem High School and the downtown transit mall. Riders will be dropped at the West Salem transfer station behind Roth's. Bring your low-back chairs or blankets or sit on the grass and enjoy this free family event.
Any proceeds raised will assist with the cost of purchasing and maintaining holiday decorations and summer banners for West Salem . The event is funded in part by the City of Salem Transient and Occupancy Tax and sponsored by the West Salem Business Association.
